Squirrel
The luxury of meat
First, it was the grain that started running out. Many granaries were already destroyed by the flood: the rest were not enough to sustain us. Then it was extreme rationing: slowly people endeavored to eat their pets and butcher their livestock. Gold and silver were traded in for loaves of bread. And all the squirrels around town were shot and eaten. These are anatomically quite normal squirrels similar to the Plantain squirrel of Indonesia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plantain_squirrel). They are generally regarded as pests, and simply ignored. However, soon, the plantain squirrel was one of the last meat-bearing animals left after the time of the Pakani Famine Texts and Dakuina (Great Storm). Thus, they were killed and butchered for their meat, which became more desirable than gold or silver.Documentation on the Dakuina (Great Storm)
