Pakani Famine Texts

A record of the famine

Marinin 1: Population 26,712
Bensohin 1: Population 17,211*
*Villages may have unreported deaths due to the recent extraordinary events
Records of the Census Bureau
The Records of the Census Bureau once was meant for tax collection purposes, tracking the life and death in Pakani. Even when a massive tsunami hit the island, the Census Bureau kept keeping track of the deaths. Even when most of the island was starving, the understaffed Census kept track of the citizens. And so, after the revolution and the recovery of the Free City of Desolation, historians had a crystal-clear view of the death and suffering after the Dakuina (Great Storm)

Purpose

The document was written to document population for tax collection purposes, at first. However, this year, after the Dakuina (Great Storm), it became a symbol of all the lives lost during and after the storms, famines, and war that occurred between 2692 and 2690 Before Fracture.

Document Structure

Clauses

The entire document is a large table, with records on each day as to reported deaths and births within the entire island. Generally, numbers are only formalized every month, given the slow travel of information after disasters.

Publication Status

The document is currently public, and is in the Free City of Desolation's Annals of Autonomy. It is often used as an example by historians as to the non-existence of aid from Noralin.
