The Lepidosian Can Man

The "Lepidosian Can Man" is a microwave-frequency numbers station with interstellar range.

Purpose / Function

Known best for the automated broadcasts it sends out, in which a synthesized, metallic-sounding Lepidosian male voice reads out numbers in Tae na Lepidesn, the Lepidosian Can Man is believed to be a joint operation between the League of Lepidosian City-States and Cobalt Knights intelligence services under the auspices of the Cobalt Protectorate. While it would be understandable that the signal would be repeated in regions close to Lepidos were it a simple Lepidosian operation - and the use of Tae base-12 numbers in the codes is a clear indication of Lepidosian involvement - the fact that it can be heard on Feldea indicates intelligence operations on that planet. However, Feldea falls more into the realm of Protectorate international concerns than those of the League.   As with most covert broadcasts, the actual purpose of the Lepidosian Can Man and the identities of those involved with it at either end of the signal are matters of state secrecy and remain unknown. What is known is that the signal has omnidirectional, broadly-directed, and MASER components and is based out of an orbital transciever array in the Lepidosian home system. Nearly every known system with a human- or human-adjacent population and technology of at least Space Age levels starts receiving broadcasts soon after being discovered by Lepidosian or Evermornan scout craft.
