Remnant Raiders

After the Harkinite Expedition and their Northern Lepidosian allies collapsed the Magocracy of Lepidos, military and paramilitary organizations previously controlled by the Occult Fraternity found themselves isolated, leaderless, and, in time, hunted by the nascent League of Lepidosian City-States. While some of these groups chose to disband, many were unwilling to cede power or resources to the Raikepists who, until recent reversals of fortune, were considered lessers suitable only for hard labor or sacrifices in the name of the civic religion. These recalcitrant remnant forces rebelled against the emerging political order and, to this day, exploit the gaps between Leauge states' spheres of influence to make money and sow chaos.

Composition

Weaponry

Remnant raiders wield a motley assortment of vintage and newly-captured weaponry, but are known to prefer firearms over more complex weapons like lasers or mass drivers because of the difficulty in sourcing replacement parts. Only a few remnant bands have access to bases of operations large enough to produce modern weaponry, and, even then, the relative tech level of the Occult Fraternity without Cobalt Protectorate support was pre-atomic. Raiders have been known to make use of other captured equipment, such as body armor and respirators, that require less advanced maintenance. The most important 'weapon' in the raiders' arsenal is stealth; by embedding with rural populations and maintaining forces in isolated regions with lots of ground cover, raider groups can sometimes wield the element of surprise against their League pursuers.

Vehicles

Remant raider crews tend to have only a limited number of actual military vehicles at their disposal, but have become adept at modifying civilian vehicles for military use over decades of insurgency.

Structure

Though they share a common origin, remnant raiders do not share any overarching power structure. Individual raider gangs may maintain a semblance of military-style chain of command, but even these have changed significantly from what they once were for lack of higher leadership. Even the more organized bands of raiders, if they mean to be successful, operate as cells to limit the danger of a decapitation strike; rangers from Steel Mill Corners and the League's Cobalt Knights allies, in particular, are known to preferrentially hunt down raider leaders through the use of their advanced intelligence-gathering apparatuses.
