Frigate-Captain Vasily Makarov

Born on July 21st, 1685, in the Principality of Palischia to a family of Druzhina Knights, Vasily Makarov followed in his father's footsteps and became a knight in Boyar Igor Palischov's druzhina retinue. He accompanied him on his campaign against the Kingdom of Albion under Grand Prince Piotr Romanovsky from 1700 to 1703, fighting in the legendary siege of Port Charlotte, which would be renamed Saint Piotrsgrad after its capture by the Grand Prince. After the founding of the Northern Empire in 1703, the capital would move to Saint Piotrsgrad, and Vasily would volunteer to join now-Tsar Piotr's Northern Fleet. From 1703 to 1713, he would partake in light raiding along the coast of the newly-formed Kingdom of Great Albion as a lieutenant in the Northern Fleet. During this time, he would also marry Aruzhan Palischova, the heiress of the Palischov line, and father a son, Nikolai Makarov.

Boyar Igor Palischov would hand-pick Frigate-Captain Makarov as the leader of his flagship, IMS Saint Nicholas, as well as Corvette-Captain Smirnov of IMS Vanguard to raid Great Albion's sugar plantation colonies in the uncharted New World. They set sail in July 1714, making their way to the waypoint island of Isla del Mosquito, before being caught in a dense fog. IMS Saint Nicholas and IMS Vanguard would sail through the fog with the intention of pillaging Grand Maritime Union-affiliated plantations but would instead sail through a sea of blood and the gale of spirits. Boyar Palischov would be dragged over the railing by the spirits of the damned, leaving command of the convoy to Frigate-Captain Makarov. Arriving in a land like no other, Varov-More, the Northern Fleet established an outpost, Burevoy Anchorage, on the island of Thieves' Haven on November 19th, 1714.

In January 1715, Frigate-Captain Makarov would lead IMS Saint Nicholas to the island of Devil's Ridge, creating a partnership with a pirate crew known as the "Bloodseekers", and discovering a journal written by Ramsey Singh, the legendary pirate who allegedly discovered Varov-More, or the Sea of Thieves, sometime in the early 1600s. The journal detailed the way to find an artifact known as the "Shroudbreaker", allowing ships under its influence to leave and enter the Sea of Thieves at will. Ordering Corvette-Captain Smirnov and Lieutenant Mosinov to find the Shroudbreaker, all focus was now on escaping Varov-More.
