Ratchet Star Industries

Here, at RSI, we manufacture only the best engines you can buy. We did this for centuries, and now, I proudly present to you our newest achievement.
— Frederic Clausen, 383

Ratchet Star Industries, abbreviated to RSI, is a major Vestan aerospace manufacturer specialized in spacecraft propulsion. RSI's engines are widely used in the civilian naval industry and are well known for their reliability and resilience. RSI's headquarters are in Bel Avenir, Vesta. As a propulsion specialist, RSI is a privileged subcontractor for major aerospace companies like Hyperion Industries and Auridan-Echidson. In addition to conventional fusion engines, RSI also manufactures DSM drives for the civilian market, although their reputation isn't as good as RSI's fusion drives.

Up until recently, RSI's main facilities were all located on Vesta, including the testing grounds for new products. This changed in 374 with the construction of the new Selach Peak Testing Grounds. The company slowly moved its Research and Development department to the new facility, ending the move mere months before the outbreak of the Asterian Insurrection. Luckily, the facility remained intact throughout the conflict, with only a handful of skirmishes occurring in the vicinity of the city.

History

RSI was founded in 176 by a group of engineers from Hyperion Industries. Seizing the opportunity of the growing aerospace market, RSI quickly became a major actor in the industry regarding spacecraft propulsion. Over the decades that followed, RSI steadily grew into a major corporation and a privileged business partner for companies like Hyperion Industries. This resulted in a majority of starships outfitted with RSI engines, making it the largest supplier on the market.

During the Interstellar War, several facilities belonging to RSI were bombed to prevent the production and maintenance of MINERVA vessels. Despite the precision bombing, striking these facilities dealt a major blow to the administration's morale, as numerous collateral casualties were inevitable. These facilities were either rebuilt or torn down after the war, following the socio-economic crisis of the post-war government.

RSI eventually expanded its operations to the Ceryx System with the construction of its new testing grounds on Asteria. The enormous facility was partially built on the mountain's slope, high above the city of Selach Peak. Travel between the city and the facility was done by cars, shuttlecrafts and funicular.

Major Departments

Research & Development
The Research and Development department of RSI is among the most important of its department. Is it responsible for improving and creating new drives, both fusion and DSM, while maintaining an edge over RSI's competitors. Only the brightest minds are accepted in this department.
Manufacturing
RSI's Manufacturing department is the most important department. It handles all of the manufacturing plants and resources to deliver RSI's products to where they need to be. RSI currently possesses six factories dedicated to the production of fusion drives, and one for the production of DSM drives.
Sales & Procurement
RSI's Sales & Procurement department handles all the client and supplier interactions with the company. It is a vital department, as without clients and suppliers, RSI's business would be meaningless. RSI's main client remains Hyperion Industries and have been for more than a century.

Products

Fusion engines

RSI's flagship products are nuclear fusion engines for spacecrafts. These are renowned for their fuel efficiency and their reliability, but they are somewhat lacking in raw power compared to other competitors. Nevertheless, many companies install RSI engines on their ships

DSM drives

RSI also manufactures DSM drives, though the demand and supply are nowhere near as high as for fusion engines. RSI's DSM drives and known to be resilient and accurate, but somewhat inefficient in power usage. Unlike the fusion engine market, RSI only represents about 20% of all DSM drive sales in Elysium.
