Murni

While the natives have no distinguishing name for the tikkunni/muursamul hybrid, the Suszukoro researchers consistently refer to them as ‘murni’.   Murni cubs are generally born healthy, they are prone to gigantism that can give rise to complications later in life, and their cognitive ability tend to be far below the average of a muursamul. Male murni are always sterile, while some female murni have proven able to reproduce.   A murni born into a muursamul den will be just as lovingly cared for as its purebred siblings but tend to end up a lifelong resident of their birth home. Even if they manage to stay perfectly healthy and capable as adults, it’s still extremely rare that a murni heads out to search for a mate or is considered by passing suitors. In contrast, as tikkunni females are prone to abandon or even eat their own young if they appear weak or sickly, murni born to them tend to be short-lived. It’s also common for tikkunni males to kill off offspring they don’t recognize as their own in the hopes of making the female available for mating again.
