Session 8: Mage Tower
General Summary
The party explores the Old Mage Tower further after finding a stash of magic items hidden behind a puzzle. In the very top of the tower, they encounter a Spectator with two Nothics by his side. The Abberation tried to communicate with them, but due to a lack of common languages, it got frustated and started attacking them.
Thinking they could not possibly win, they retreated down to the lower parts of the tower again. Before being able to do so, they notice an important book in the room however and plan out a way to grab it and flee down.
Being successful in grabbing the book, Gerrith starts reading it down at the orrery, while the rest still tries to run from the spectator and the nothics. The book consists of copied old texts and research notes and the party is able to decipher the legend of The Ancient Gods.
As they finish reading, a familiar presence enters the tower. Vadania enters the room from the outside and explains that she is on a top secret mission to retrieve the book that the party just found. She insists that they hand it over, so that she can deliever it back to Istor Icefang. Not trusting her, the party denies her request. After receiving blatent critisism about not getting to the book first from gerrith, she looses her temper and reveals that she in fact is a shapeshifter. It transforms into the visage of Valcius Furox, the Innkeeper of the Golden Hearth Inn. The party gets more restless and a struggle ensues where the shapechanger tries to collect the book and flee while the party fights tooth and nails to keep it in their possession.
After being grappeled, tackled and even followed into the ethereal plane by the party, the shapechanger activates a sending stone and shortly after a portal appears in front of it. The group is than shiftly hit by a fireball flying through it, as Brunhilst is stepping through it. With her help, the shapeshifter escapes, leaving the party behind, but not before they unleash opportunity attacks in an attempt to destroy the research book.
