Nordrykke Kingdom

A kingdom of the eastern part of Astuiria and de jura ruling faction of the isles.

Flag/Coat of Arms

Their coat of arms depicts a black raven perched on the prow of a longship against an icy blue background. The raven symbolises wisdom while the longship reflects nordrykkes naval prowess. The blue background represents their home and resilience against harsh winters. The Nordrykken flag is often painted onto the shields of warriors and adorn the sails of their longships.

Structure

The kingdom is consisting historically of multiple facetted cultural groups that gather in clans or houses. Typically, clans led by chieftains and supported by a council of elders or wise scholars. While each house remains an autonym entity, they're all answer to the ruling house of the frostbane clan. Warriors and seafarers hold high esteem, but all are expected to contribute to survival.

Culture

The people of this land are hardy, pragmatic, and steeped in warrior traditions. The Nordrykke value loyalty, craftsmanship, and resourcefulness. Their society is clan-based, with strong ties to nature and ancestry.

  • The people of Nordrykke have a habit of carving runes into almost everything, from weapons to doorframes, as blessings or protective charms.
  • Feasts often end with “strength contests,” such as wrestling or stone lifting, reflecting their value on physical prowess.
  • Superstitious fishermen never leave port without tossing a coin into the sea as an offering to Njord, their sea god.

History

Centuries ago, the Fyrnhrafn clan sailed to the Isle from the west and subjugated the indigenous people. They set up a clan system that aimed to respect and incorporate the existing cultures into the new governmental body. Since then the Fyrnhafn clan has been absorbed into the ruling house of Nordrykke.

Religion

The clans under the nordrykke worship a pantheon of primal deities tied to winter, survival, and the sea. Chief among them is Thrynga, the Winter Mother, goddess of storms and endurance.

Agriculture & Industry

The Kingdom primarly benefitted from the bounty of the land, which includes sturdy timbre, warming furs, fatty whale meat and shining ironwork. The mining industry located on the western side of the island has been upsurped recently and is in the clutches of Velkravya. With it's steel production cut off, the kingdom relies on it's reserves and trading routes to arm its warriors.
