The Treaty of Crain's Rock

This treaty, signed after repeated conflicts, both militaristic and political, between the humans of the Southsea region and the sea elves, formally unified the two into the conjoined country they share today.   Signed several hundred years ago on the small island known as Crain's Rock, this treaty outlines the details of the two empires' cooperation and conjoinment. It details how land was to be divided up, how trade between them would work, how to share certain contested points of land, and other key points that had been fueling some of their conflict prior.   Several important figures spend many days on that island drafting a redrafting the agreement before they were both satisfied and signed the three copies they made. One was left of Crain's Rock, sealed in a small shrine they build, while the other two went to each race's capital.   It is still in legal effect today, officially, though many of the rules have been relaxed or ignored as the distinctions between their empires began to blur over the centuries. While there are certain legal distinctions, the humans of Southsea and the sea elves are largely one people now, and the exact regulation outlines in the treaty are often ignored in favor of more free trade and travel.   Even still, despite being of limited relevance now in how Southsea operate, the Treaty of Crain's Rock is one of the most important legal documents to be signed. It was what finally led to the peace that eventually became integration, and without it the whole of the Southsea of today, one of the greatest empires in the Riftgrounds, would not exist.
We really had to get every detail right, or this whole thing wasn't going to work. I think we all knew that. It was a real back and forth, give and take kind of situation, but in the end I think we all wanted to come to an agreement. That's what really made the difference, I believe. It wasn't just two sides trying to outsmart each other, gain as much as we could; we really wanted to find a solution, to find peace. - Lord Hareen, Southsea Noble
