The Crusade of Myrlin

Many years ago, when the Alum's portal was misused to summon a devil prince, the snow dwarves, humans, and arcane elves in the area banded together to launch the Northscar Crusade. But this was only part of the battle.   West of Northscar, one of the lieutenants of the Devil Lord Tyrlak, Notrhis, built up his own army. Hiding away in a complex cave system, he grew his own force, summoning devils from a rift within the cave. They meant to ambush the crusaders at Northscar, flanking their entire army and destroying them.   But shortly after the main force rode off towards Northscar, a Dwarven woman by the name of Myrlin caught wind of their second hideout. Wielding the blade Vandyr, she led a small force into the caves, fighting their way through impossible numbers and purging the forces of Hell before they could launch their ambush.   It is said that she faced down Nothris alone, striking him down with the legendary fiend-slaying blade while her forces finished purging the caves. Many tales and songs have been written about their battle, but in truth little is known about the events that transpired there. In the end, she emerged from the cave empty handed, her and nearly her entire force having survived against the odds, but Vandyr was lost.   Some speculate it rest still in the cave somewhere, others think it was destroyed entirely as it landed the killing blow on such a powerful fiend. Others think perhaps Myrlin herself hid it away somewhere, where its power couldn't be used by any others. None know for sure, only that she never talked about what happened in their battle, and that any further attempts to locate the legendary weapon have proved unsuccessful.   Most have stopped looking in the many years since, accepting that the blade has been lost to time. There are a few however that still seek, hoping that someday another clue will emerge, and the legendary blade Vandyr can be reclaimed oncemore.
