Auralism

The grand narrative of the Song of the Shattered is not just myth but law across the Pactlands, binding its diverse nations under a shared spiritual and cultural framework. It posits that when the Broken Choir sacrificed themselves to save Elyndralis, their dying breaths became the ten currents of magic, each tied to a specific divine essence, as well as the origin of the sacred Aegis Tongue. These currents are taught to flow naturally, as gifts bestowed for the preservation and progress of the world.   The High Magus Council are the governing body that enforces this belief system within the Pactlands. While not explicitly clergy, the High Magus Council serves a dual role as protectors of the realm's arcane stability and stewards of the Pact. The Academies at Dey, where gifted individuals are trained, double as both magical institutions and centers of spiritual indoctrination. Students are taught not only the mechanics of their magic but also the divine narrative of sacrifice that underpins its existence.   This system creates a paradoxical relationship with magic users. They are simultaneously venerated as rare vessels of divine favor and feared as potent wielders of a power that many believe is tethered to the will of the gods—or worse, to the lingering whispers of the Endless Maw.   The Song is also pervasive in the Disputed Lands, though there it often competes with regional interpretations and rival narratives. The High Magus Council is largely dismissed or resented beyond the Pactlands, but the story itself retains a foothold even among skeptics.
