Empire of Vector

The Empire of Vector, known as the Imperial Dominion of Vector in formal contexts, occupies the southern reaches of the continent. It is a highly disciplined, militaristic state with a history of volatile leadership, marked by assassinations and regime changes. Vector prides itself on its military might, strict societal structure, and an unyielding belief in its superiority over other nations. Its strategic location, blending jungle, savannah, and wetlands, has enabled it to dominate agriculture and resource exploitation in the region. Vector sees itself as the backbone of the Concordance, a protector of humanity, though its neighbors often view its actions with suspicion.

Structure

The Imperial Hand: The Emperor wields absolute power, supported by an elite council of advisors known as the Imperial Hand. The Emperor oversees military campaigns, foreign policy, and internal governance.
The Imperial Senate: The Imperial Senate is comprised of appointed nobles and military officials. While ostensibly an advisory body, the Emperor often uses it to consolidate power.
Black Tribunal: The Black Tribunal enforces Vector’s strict laws and metes out punishments. The judges, called Adjudicators, are composed mostly of trained magi who have the authority to enact punishments themselves directly upon the conclusion of the trial.

Culture

Vectoran culture revolves around discipline, hierarchy, and loyalty to the state. Citizens are indoctrinated from a young age to prioritize duty over personal ambition. Military service is seen as the highest calling, and failure to serve is stigmatized. Vectorans regard the Free Folk as little more than animals and view other Concordance nations as weak or decadent. Art and literature glorify conquest, discipline, and the sacrifice of the Broken Choir. Festivals often involve military parades and reenactments of historical battles.

Public Agenda

Vector’s current public agenda centers on its occupation of Anastae, a ruined area in the southern Disputed Lands. The official justification is to pacify Free Folk raids along Vector’s borders, though critics argue this is a pretext for expansion. General Ajjiro Ryde leads the occupation, with plans to establish permanent fortifications in the region. Vector has petitioned the High Magus Council for legitimacy, claiming its actions are in defense of the Concordance.

Assets

  • A vast, conscripted army.
  • Strong agricultural production due to fertile lands near the coast.
  • Extensive mineral resources in the savannah and wetland regions.
  • Advanced military fortifications, including border outposts and jungle garrisons.
  • A centralized bureaucracy that efficiently enforces laws and collects taxes.

History

Vector was founded in the first year of the Pact. Over 1,024 years, it has endured numerous regime changes, with Emperors often assassinated or overthrown. Despite its volatile leadership, Vector has remained a dominant power due to its military strength and strategic location. Notable events include:   The Red Coup (Year 432): A bloody purge that replaced the reigning dynasty with a military junta. The War of Dusk (Year 787): A failed invasion of Halen that resulted in heavy sanctions by the High Magus Council. The Ebon Reformation (Year 1009): A shift toward centralized power under the current dynasty.

Demography and Population

Vector’s population stands at 1.8 million, primarily concentrated in urban centers like Nostra. Ethnic homogeneity is common, with strict policy against immigration.

Territories

Vector spans the southern edge of the continent, bordered by Rasza and the Disputed Lands to the north. Its territory includes dense jungles, expansive savannahs, and fertile wetlands along the coast.

Military

Vector’s military is its greatest strength, bolstered by mandatory conscription. The army includes:   Legions of Steel: Regular infantry trained in jungle and savannah warfare.
Aetheric Battalion: Magi specializing in Electromancy and Pyromancy.
Wardens of the Hand: Elite soldiers tasked with defending against internal threats.

Foreign Relations

Vector maintains an uneasy relationship with other Concordance nations. It distrusts Halen and views Rasza’s republicanism as a threat to its authority. Trade persists, but alliances are tenuous at best.

Laws

Vector’s laws are draconian, with punishments including public executions and Soulreaving. Citizens are required to report any magical or treasonous activity.

Agriculture & Industry

Vector thrives on rice cultivation in the wetlands, supplemented by mining and lumber industries in the savannah and jungle regions. Deforestation is a growing concern.

Trade & Transport

Trade routes connect Nostra to Rasza, with well-maintained roads and river systems. Vector’s navy secures coastal trade against piracy.

Education

While magi are trained in Shavi per Concordance laws, Vector operates secret schools to produce loyal magical practitioners. Common citizens receive minimal education, focusing on skills needed for military or agricultural work.

Infrastructure

The Empire of Vector is renowned for its sophisticated infrastructure, which combines advanced engineering and magical integration. Its Imperial Pathways, a network of durable stone-paved roads, connect major cities, military outposts, and trade hubs, enabling rapid troop movements and efficient commerce. These roads are supported by waystations and watchtowers, while aqueducts bring fresh water from the Jade Basin to urban centers and farmlands. Vector’s irrigation systems ensure abundant crop yields, and underground reservoirs provide reliable water storage for cities like Nostra.   Fortifications are a key feature of Vector’s infrastructure, with fortified borders, towering city walls, and defensive watchtowers securing the Empire. Urban centers follow grid layouts for order and efficiency, featuring advanced sewage systems and public squares. This infrastructure not only supports the Empire’s military ambitions but also showcases its relentless drive for discipline and control.
