Vaya-Vatu is believed to be the oldest of The Nine; a timeless, genderless architect who has overseen reality since time immemorial, and by whose divine hands that the first stars were sculpted. They are the embodiment of harmony between seemingly contradicting forces, which is reflected in the complexion of their avatar: a multi-armed cosmic being with a two-tone body that is neither masculine nor feminine in appearance. It is through these contrasting aspects that they are both Gilder, who makes things beautiful and aesthetically pleasing, and Shaper, who makes things sturdy and functional.
Some ancient myths claim that, before time began, there were only two deities in existence: Valantyr, Sky-Mother of the elves, and Vultan, Forge-Father of the dwarves. The two soon realized, however, that their task of finding balance between all things was impossible for either to accomplish by themselves, so they combined their divine essences into a single new being, becoming the androgynous Vaya-Vatu. This unity is why they encourage their followers to practice self-reflection, for they must first learn to resolve their internal conflicts before they can truly embrace all that the Star Weaver teaches.
Many of the Star Weaver’s worshippers are craftsmen and ascetics, living lives that revolve around discipline and rigorous routines. They look to the Star Weaver for inspiration and guidance in their creative endeavors, believing that the blessings of their deity will help them to craft masterpieces. They seek the balance that Vaya-Vatu’s dualistic nature embodies, hoping to find the perfect marriage between form and function. Followers of Vaya-Vatu believe that, by striving to perfect themselves, they can create something that is truly meaningful, just as the Star Weaver has done since the beginning of time.
