Primordial Chaos of Fundament

Fundament is the realm from which the raw materials of existence spring forth, a primordial forge where the essences of all things take shape. Resembling a tumultuous ocean of ephemeral elemental forces, it is a place of unbridled energy where the building blocks of reality itself constantly clash and mix with each other, giving rise to new elements and natural phenomena in a chaotic dance of creation and destruction. Though the untamed chaos of Fundament’s terrain is potentially deadly for nonnative visitors, the plane is strangely conducive to the development of primitive lifeforms.

Within the boundless expanse of Fundament lives an assortment of distinct beings known as elementals. These entities defy easy classification, their forms ranging from the menacing, often muscular physiques of djinn to shapes so abstract that mortal tongues cannot adequately describe them. As the living embodiments of a specific element, each elemental harbors an essence of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Metal, or Wood. It is theorized that all elementals are the direct progeny of the Primordials, beings of unparalleled power who once held dominion over the entirety of creation.

Scattered throughout Fundament are the Elemental Spheres, regions that mark the final resting place of a different Primordial: Petra, Mother Stone; Sussura, Mother Sky; Pyra, Mother Spark; Thalassa, Mother Sea; Talica, Mother Steel; and Mua, Mother Seed. Each Sphere is dominated by a singular element of these fallen Mother forces, radiating their powerful essences to suffuse their surroundings. The Primordial Mothers, whose names would’ve long been lost if not for the noble djinn that still preserve their bodies, were the first to be slain by the gods at the beginning of time.

At the center of Fundament exists a point of supreme chaos known as the Maelstrom, where all the elements coalesce in a violent vortex of matter and energy. Here, the boundaries between elements blur and blend together, giving rise to something utterly alien to the rest of the Nine Realms. Emerging as manifestations of mutability from this chaotic crucible are the proteans, a serpentine class of creatures that can only be found in or around the Maelstrom. They serve as agents of change, manipulating and weaponizing the very essence of Fundament to their own fell ends.

Oracular Observations: The God Fall

｢ Beneath the resting place of Mother Sea, something nigh incomprehensible has begun to fester. There are rumors that the calcifying corpse of a nameless Elder God has been found, sinking forever into the lightless depths of Fundament, and that any creature to feast upon its flesh is twisted into a horrible monstrosity of eyes and tentacles. While it is not my position to judge the authenticity of such wild tales, it has come to my attention that a magical blind spot has fallen over that exact spot below the Sphere of Water, blocking any attempts to scry upon it or divine its nature. Unfortunately, I have no evidence to present regarding this topic, but it is nevertheless a topic potentially worthy of discussion. ｣
