The Natural Disasters #8: A New Hope

General Summary

The southerners rush into a battle with the plagued proponents of Dreus. A poxbringer surrounded by insects fights them with the aid of a venomous troll while battles rage on between paladins and their plagued counterparts. One of the paladins yells for the group to get the innocents out of the building and run, but the group still fights. This results in a showdown between the group and two companions, versus a diseased champion and two companion hunters, and in this showdown, Hope is gutted before the rest of the group kills the enemies.
In the middle of night as they travel, Remington attempts to escape into the night. He makes it away, but the companion of vengeance and Ariel hunt him down and find him at a small stream. Ariel begins calling out Remington's sins and Remington tells him to fight already. With the affinity the two paladins hold, Ariel convince the companion to paralyze Remington, which allows the partner of Mr. Taylor to force him to his knees and execute him in front of the slowly flowing water.
They then go what they can to prevent decay from occurring and travel back home. As soon as they get there, they buy a diamond and perform a ritual to revive the dead Hope, and she comes back, with her hair dulled from its vibrant color it was before.
Then, the southerners go to visit Hope and Kriv's adoptive father, Simon. While visiting, the siblings see their younger brothers, but they learn their sister is heading to Elturel to work with or as a Companion. Simon asks them to see her and convince her not to throw her life away with this.
Meanwhile the others go to Galahad's Gear and Gadgets, a shop filled with robots and other fine novelties. They get offered a magical whip, but they are unable to afford it, so Bear buys some regular items while Ariel buys an amulet.
Soon after, Hope continues speaking to her family. She says she does not want to adventure anymore, and she wants to spend her time doing something better with her life. She wants to join the Hellriders, and the others agree with those goals, so the Southward Bound party begins on their final southward travel, to Elturel.
On their way, the group come across a caravan of broken down wagons. They find a trail of footprints and some blood. They follow it into the hills where a beast is devouring animals on a stone slab. Looking around, Bear sees the creature is a darkened ogre in a place of light. This ogre spots the group as they try to sneak up on it, and it charges Ariel and nearly kills him immediately. Playing it more carefully, they meet the beast with attacks of light to banish it from this land, and the southerners prepare their next move.
