The Natural Disasters #7: The Reins of Dreus

General Summary

The Southward bound party begin exploring their options for fording the river. Bear begins to see if he could cross, but he eventually decides to take caution and investigates the support system of the bridge to see if he can pass via climbing it, but he decides against it. Finally, Kriv informs them of Old Bart's offer, and the party all decide to go speak to him.   Bart calls them out for how much they all stand out, including Hope's name in his ridicule. He tells them to all buy drinks and talk, and after a short time, they should follow him so they can speak in private. They drink and he says some pieces of philosophy and moves out of the tavern.   Upon following him, he leads them to a ramshackle hut. He explains to them that there is a system of tunnels beneath the earth here that they can use to escape, and if they come at nightfall, he can let them out. They respond that they have to wait for two days, so he tells them to come on the night of the second day.   In this time, Hope works in the blacksmith's shop and Bear digs a hole. They then gather their silvered weapons and wait to follow Bartholomeau to the tunnel.   Bart leads them to the tunnel where they are made to dig to enter. They do so rather quickly, and they drop down as Bart begins covering the hole behind them. However. as they travel through the tunnel, they hear shouting from behind them, so they move faster.   While in the tunnels, the party are attacked by giant insects and a strange creature called a bulette that acts akin to a land shark or some mix between a snapping turtle and armadillo. They manage to luckily kill all of the creatures that attack them with only Remington dropping unconscious from the deadly jaws and claws of the bulette. Then, an explosion goes off behind them that begins collapsing the tunnel.   Everyone then successfully runs to the end of the tunnel and climbs up into a shanty home through a wooden trap door. They are finally across, but when they look outside, they see search parties in the town. However, Bear still wants his horse, so he sneaks back into the town to get it.   Bear succeeds in sneaking into the town and cutting his horse free while hidden, but it is a difficult task to ride a house out of a town on high alert, and the guards begin chasing after him, some gaining their own horses. One guard, the leader named Larkson catches Bear as he is escaping. He brings low Bear's horse and chases after him. Bear, claiming the others have escaped. hides in the shack with the others and waits to strike Larskon when he enters. As he does, everyone hits him with full force, so he runs away and gets on his horse to get back up. The party run, and they make it out okay.   After this, they travel on through multiple days to get to Triel. One night, Hope is attacked by a vampiric woman, but she manages to awake Kriv who in turn manages to wake up Ariel and Bear who saves Hope from being an undead snack. After this, the travels continue fairly well.   However, they soon hear the sounds of combat as they travel. Bear decides to go investigate and he sees people in shining armor of various gods facing off against strange figures of pestilence and power. He lets the group know, and Hope charges in to join the Companions of Elturguard. The rest of the group see no other choice and charge after to aid Hope.
