Viridian Brilliant-Firecrest Species in The Realms | World Anvil

Viridian Brilliant-Firecrest

It was the flash of green that caught his eyes, a sight so rare in Phasmye with its eternally burning fire. He twisted to look at it, almost falling off of his mount as he did so. There, in the trees! A bird, the color of the sea with feathers unburnt by the fires around it. He stared at it in wonder before it flickered, vanishing in a burst of viridian fire.

Habitat

Viridian Brilliant-Firecrests are native to Phasmye and only found in one area of the Realm. As this area is close to the Void Mists and there have been sightings of the birds flying through untouched, it is hypothesized that somewhere in the mountains hidden by the Mist is a resource that gives the Firecrests their brilliant color.

A High Value Resource

The Viridian Brilliant-Firecrests are, like many of the creatures of Phasmye, fire-resistant, if not fire-proof. Unlike all the other species, the feathers of the Firecrests are able to bestow this same fire resistance to any who wear a cloak of the feathers. Because of this, as well as their exotic look, Firecrest feathers are in high demand as explorers and Adventurers alike require the cloaks to battle and explore the far reaches of Phasmye. Many Phoenixians wear the feathers, not because they need them, but rather because the color is not one found in their own feathers naturally and as a status symbol.

Biology

A Viridian Brilliant-Firecrest has much of the same biology as a bird found in any other Realm. Their feathers range in color from anywhere between a pale to dark blue-green, giving them the title of 'Viridian.' They stand at approximately a foot high from talons to top of the head, although they often look shorter. They have a head crest of three to seven feathers, often more brilliant in color then the rest of their feathers. It also often has flames licking from the ends of the feathers, the more brilliant the color of the flame, the healthier the bird.
