The Frost Army Military Formation in The Realms Beyond | World Anvil

The Frost Army

The Frost Army are Winter’s primary visible fighters, though they are not quite an Armed force in the understanding of a standing army with largely magical reinforced steel plate wearers. The combatants of Winter began with a Ranger, archery force, and though this has changed to some degree, there are still marks of the original Matriarchal presence depending on where one looks. Ranger-Captain is still a beloved title in districts that are further away from Shimmer City. Most fighting is carried out through tactics of fighting with endurance and tiring out ones enemy rather than direct use of brutality. The adept manner of using stealth or ranged tactics to end a fight is preferred, while some of the tendency for the loosely formed squads of the past still lingers. Ambushes, sabotage, raids, petty warfare, hit-and-run tactics, and mobility, to fight a larger and less-mobile traditional military is the typical preferred manner of combat.    Units of Arcanic Rangers, such as were created in Atlantis eons ago still persist despite the city sinking. Often, they combine magic and rapid fire archery strengths to avoid long sieges, and the use of more individual strategies, such as commanders duelling to ease sharper loss of life. The exception has been combat during fighting Void creatures, at these times more bladed weaponry has been needed to put an end to the conflict, which tends to cause a heavy casualty issue in Winter. As such, since the beginning of the last Void conflict that has now dragged on three thousand years, the Frost Army has done its best to not end up overly taxed in terms of resource use.
