Dreamweavers Profession in The Realms Beyond | World Anvil

Dreamweavers

Dream Weavers are those with dream powers of all kinds, though most have the magic known as Dream Weaving. One can enter the dream and control it, manipulate it, even bring it to the real world if they’re strong enough. Some can walk within the dream, others simply observe, and some can even push emotions into the dreams to help guide it with little harm. Dream Weaving is a complex magic that if used correctly can help heal those plagued with nightmares or even mental illness. But used incorrectly, and they can harm the dreamer.   The Temple of Azaur and the The Nightmares both require all their members know Dream Weaving. While Dream Weaving can be taught, knowing some Dream Weaving before passing the trials to join either organization is always an advantage, but it is not a requirement. Dream Weaving for the Temple of Azaur is focused on healing the mind, while the Nightmares focus on hurting.   Most Dream Weavers can only do subtle things with dreams, such as nudging a dream with emotions. While only high priests and priestesses, or the top ranking nightmares, can go as far as make people question reality or turn someone’s mind. But even then it’s very difficult. Dream Weaving is not an easy magic to master, and very dangerous. Think of a dream as a massive ship on a course, most Dream Weavers are small gusts of wind trying to steer it elsewhere, while the best Dream Weavers are strong gales.   Most Dream Weavers can only enter the mind of someone asleep, or in a meditative state. Only the Nightmares are taught how to create waking dreams, which are hallucinations while awake.   Dream Weavers also have a stronger mind, which means they can combat dangerous Dream Weaving against them, or the waking nightmares in the battered lands caused by the Alostar flower that grows in the ice.
