Festival of Daamat
The Festival of Daamat is a winter solstice celebration observed by followers of Daamat, God of Darkness. Its rites are secret and only known to Daamat's followers. The main purpose of the Festival is to allow followers of Daamat to reveal any secrets that might be bothering them, as followers of Daamat can become cursed with corruption for revealing secrets and breaking promises. Any follower of Daamat may particpate, and all villages in the Realm will hold their own festival each year.
Participants
Followers of Daamat, God of Darkness observe the winter solstice as the longest night of the year. Generally, only followers who need to make a confession participate, but some of the more dedicated followers will participate even if they don't need to. Followers meet at the village Meeting House, which is reserved on the night of the solstice for the festival. Participants are required to stay for the entirety of the winters solstice, from sunset to sunrise.
Observance
The festival typically involves animal sacrifice and ritual confessions. The festival is the only opportunity followers of Daamat have to reveal secrets they are keeping without risking corruption. Secrets revealed at the festival must be kept by the other participants, but followers often still take the opportunity to relieve themselves of heavy secrets. It is typical for participants to wear masks or otherwise hide their faces during the festival. The masks are a formality as participants usually recognize each other by voice or clothing. Masks are relics passed down from generation to generation.
Interesting festival! It's nice that it is the only time the followers can reveal secrets safely
