West Edengaard Trading Company

The West Edengaard Trading Company is one of the oldest and strongest trading companies that operate in Old Salt. They operate under the authority of the Anorian Empire, and have established numerous colonies along the northern shores of Edengaard, as well as some in the free shores of Wren. Under the authority of The Anorian Empire they raid pirate strongholds and independent settlements alike, seeing the region as an unrestricted zone.

Structure

All trading companies that operate under the authority of the Anorian Empire answer to the Emperor, but they are directly run by governors who are given control of the trading companies by the Emperor. Governors of trading companies hire crews, establish colonies, and protect trade routes. Under them they typically have captains who are in charged of ships and fleets, while mayors typically run colonies and collect tax.

Culture

The West Edengaard Trading Company is an aggressive faction, that is a strong arm of force within Old Salt. They often use brute force to seize territory and then protect their settlements with numbers. This has caused many of the soldiers and sailors of the company to become aggressive towards outside groups. It is not uncommon for innocent villages to be raided by company ships without cause.

History

In the decades and centuries after the first Anorian Invasion of Old Salt, the attention of the Imperial military was focused to the eastern border of the empire. The constant conflict with The Grand Republic of Durham left the Anorian Imperial presence in Old Salt diminished. This made room for trading companies to vie for power, seeking imperial charters to operate in Old Salt with the authority of the Imperial Crown. The West Edengaard Trading Company was one of the first large scale operations, being given permission to establish a handful of colonies along the northern shores of Edengaard were very little Imperial troops were stationed. Given full power over the region, the trading company established thriving trading towns that were home to several fleets of ships that would raid pirate settlements all over Old Salt.
