Pantheons of the Reach
Pantheons can often be complicated to understand, as there are many different layers to the cosmology of a world. To help make it more clear how the pantheons of the Reach interact with the material plan I have answered some basic questions about the pantheon itself.
How do the deities of the Reach interact and interfere with the world?
Deities of the Reach will rarely directly interfere with the affairs of the Material Plane. This is in part because many deities lack the power to create a corporeal form within the Reach that could contain all of their divine power, and also because the events transpiring on the material plane rarely catch the full attention of the most powerful celestial powers. Instead the people of the Reach are left to their own devices, and are granted boons of power from their respective deities.
Do deities speak to their followers? If so, how do they speak to them?
Deities in the Reach are difficult to contact for many of their worshippers, mainly being accessed through the casting of spells or the doing of great deeds. Being capable of directly speaking with a divine entity is seen as either a sign of power, destiny, or insanity.
Where do deities get their power?
There are three different types of power a deity can have. The first is the power of the Primordials, which is formed of the fabric of reality. These Primordials and their power have existed before time, and they will likely exist after. The Cosmonauts gain their power from different aspects of the natural world. This means that the more abundant that aspect of nature is within the Reach, the more powerful the deity will be. Ascended deities gain their power from being worshipped by mortal beings from within the Reach. There are many rituals that allow for beings from all across the planes of existence to achieve a deified status, but the fervor of their worshippers belief makes these deities a more potent force.
What is the point of choosing a divine patron?
Followers of the same deity can have wildly different personal connections with their given patron, but organized religious pursuits offer interesting character narratives as well as opportunity for unique social encounters and character backstory. Those who worship divine beings often do so with a devoted purpose that somehow aligns with that particular deity.
