Mersa

Mersa is a large town that has been built along a trade route that runs through the northern woods of Jarrenvale, just south of Edengard. The town itself lacks a recognizable central location, as many of the trees that are found within the city are seen as sacred by the indigenous populations of the area, who have repeatedly thwarted attempts to develop the land into a more urbanized town. This restriction has lead the town to sprawl out all across the southern wood, but has not hindered it's growth because the location of the town is vital in conducting trade between the bountiful fields of Edengard and the rest of the Anorian Empire.

Government

Mersa is run like many other Imperial cities, there is a city council made up of elected officials from the area that is superseded by an Imperial Governor who is appointed by the emperor. The city council in the city historically falls in line with the governor, but council members often fear retribution from natives if they go too far in allowing the governor to destroy sacred lands.

Industry & Trade

If this was any other area of The Reach, it would have never seen development, but Mersa sits perfectly along three trade routes that allow for Edengard to supply the Anorian Empire with an abundance a food that is grown in the fertile fields of the region. Mersa serves as a vital trading post for the vast supplies of food that the Anorian Empire relies on in order to properly function.

Guilds and Factions

The Circle of Long Roots does not have it's home within the city of Mersa, but it exerts much influence over the town. Seen as protectors of the wood, they are feared by many Anorian citizens within Mersa for their aggressive approach in protecting their sacred trees from being touched by the blade of an axe. They are secluded from much of civilization, and people do not often come in contact with members of the circle.

History

For thousands of years, Mersa was an dense forest untouched my urbanization. It was, and still is home, to a the druid Circle of Long Roots, that have protected their forest since before Jarrenvale was under control of the Anorian Empire. Like many druidic circle in and around Edengrad, they understood that they may not be able to get back entirely against the Anorian Empire, but instead they can assert their will by responding in force when they believe that the Anorian Empire has overstepped their boundaries. This tension has caused Mersa to grow in strange ways, as areas of the town are forbidden for any building to take place on, and no trees are allowed to be brought down in the town.
