NSV Ave Maria
The Novan Spike Vessel Ave Maria is, as it's name implies, a last ditch hail Mary effort made by the people of Terra Nova to save their dying star and, in effect, their entire world. After it was discovered that something was causing their star to age prematurely and exponentially, the people of Terra Nova were facing and existential crisis. As if in answer to their problem a pretech capital ship, set adrift after it's crew perished in the Scream, crashed in the planet's southern hemisphere. While much of the ship was damaged (including it's spike drive), the vast majority of the vessel was salvageable.
While the Novan's lacked any pretech specialists such as engineers and physicists, making use of the crashed ships semi-intact database they were able to reverse engineer much of the ship's systems and functions. Many Novan scientists admitted that while they did not fully understand the technology the ship employed, they were confident they could copy it if needed.
Seemingly overnight the Novan's technological understanding and development advanced almost two hundred years. The scientists and mechanics on Terra Nova were able to construct a smaller vessel from the wreckage of the pretech capital ship over the course of two and a half years. Named the Ave Maria, the ship was intended to be the last chance for the dying world to reach out into the starts and find another surviving human colony that would possess the technology or the knowledge to help them save their home.
