Terra Nova
Terra Nova is the most common colony name throughout the settled worlds, and Archive records indicate that at the height of the Mandate's power nearly 2,000 human colonies bore the name. The Terra Nova mentioned here is the only planet to bear that name in the Pax Omega sector of human space.
Settled during the final days of the Mandate this world suffered badly when the Scream hit. Only in it's infancy, the colony had very few of the needed specialists to build a postech society such as engineers and physicists. The planet also was low in vital resources and elements required towards creating finer technologies such as rare-earth metals. These, along with several other key factors, made the planet's survival post-Scream incredibly difficult. After 600 years of struggling in the Silence, Terra Nova barely managed to maintain a development level equivalent to that of the early industrial period on Old Terra.
The lives and future of the people of Terra Nova changed half a century ago when what passed for scientists and scholars noted that the system's star had been dimming and that the temperature on the planet had been slowly growing colder and colder. While they could not explain what exactly was happening what was clear was that the planet was in trouble. Terra Nova's star was dying.
