Hospital of the Hallowed Patrick

As seen in
This is an ancient house of healing in Sayinia. It was founded centuries ago and has gathered as many legends as historical facts, but it is particularly known for two things.   First, the hospital is known for its association with (some say even founding by) the now-revered holy man, called Patrick in place of his birth name after his conversion and dedication to the aid of others, and his rejection of a wealthy heritage and a political future. Patrick was known to enjoy music and himself played the horned lyre, and so the great statue which stands at the hospital gates depicts him holding his instrument while extending a hand to the road in welcome and assistance.   The hospital was also known for an artefact which supposedly could greatly aid in healing, to a nearly-miraculous degree. This may have been a relic of the Hallowed Patrick himself, or it may have been left by the mages during the wars, but in most stories it is known primarily as the Memento. It's reported by those who have seen it in modern times to be a palm-sized plaque with a dull oval stone, unremarkable in workmanship or beauty.   Like many items of legendary renown, its feats are more incredible in the oldest tales, and in more recent decades it hardly figures at all in reports of the hospital's work. Today a visitor to the hospital will probably not even hear of the thing, as the healers and physickers do not generally bring it out for viewing, much less for use. Some admit to a degree of embarrassment that their efforts are often still overshadowed by a myth. The object is preserved in the hospital for respect, but the physickers agree that if it ever truly had any magical healing powers, they have long faded.   Today Patrick is remembered as a benevolent man who did many good works and offered much medical help to the needy. But many patients still come to the Hospital of the Hallowed Patrick because of the legend of the Memento. Whether they believe openly in its magical influence or not, or whether they indeed ever see it, they still associate the hospital on some level with its legendary healing abilities, and it brings some from great distances or past other physickers and nursing clinics to petition instead at the Hallowed Patrick for aid.
The Hallowed Patrick and his lyre is depicted in this floor mosaic. From a temple in Sayinia.
