The Great Desert
The Great Desert is the northern portion of the continental home of the G'ecko, it spans a wide range of the planet and is aligned along the equator, which bisects the desert. This part of the landmass is 13,431.40 km wide by 15,050.40 km long.
This makes it about 22x the size of the Sahara on Earth.
The Great Desert is made up of several smaller regions, the Great Sea of Sand takes up the majority of it north of the EggShell Mountains. The Blasted Lands are a red iron oxide rich desert to the east and south of the mountains, here the earth is much harder packed and rockier. Directly south of the mountain range is the G'ecko homeland of EggHome and the Mother River. This land is a verdent paradice in the desert, a tropical juingle teeming with insect life. West of EggHome and the Mother River lies the Lesser Sea of Sand, a smaller sandy desert nestled in the crook of the mountain range. Much of the northern coastline of the Great Desert features more green and verdent areas, nurtured by river deltas and tropical storms.
Geography
This desert is primarily a massive desert of sand and rocks. It has a mountain range that almost completely bisects it. The north half is predominantly the Sea of Sands. The Sea of Sands is a cotinent wide windy desert of shifting sands with occasional oasis sprinkled throughout it. To the north of the Sea of Sands is a green stretch of coastline with a small delta in the north east corner of the continent. To the south east of the mountain range is the Blasted Lands an arid landscape of shrub grass and dark red, iron-oxide filled rocks and sedimentary stone. This area is much less sandy as compared to the north and features more vegetation in general, but very few oasis. To the south west of the mountain range is the Little Sea, a smaller sandy desert compared to the greater one to the north. This sea of sand is partially enclosed by the mountain range to it's west, but eventually gives way to the Yellow Plains and the Southern Jungle to it's southern edges.
Directly between the Blasted Lands and the Little Sea is the homeland of the G'ecko and their only major establishment, Egg-Home and the Great River which flows from it. Egg-Home is a massive hollow stone in the shape of an egg. Within this stone is the spring from which the Great River is sourced. The only permanent encampment of the G'ecko is established both within and around Egg-Home and the G'ecko claim the edifice as the literal birthplace of their species. Egg-Home is also the largest oasis to be found in the Great Desert, it's greenery only surpassed in size by the delta on the north eastern tip of the continent. South of Egg-Home runs the Great River and the greenery of Egg-Home continues along the river's edges all the way until the river widens and deposits into the sea to it's south.
