The Philosophy

The Philosophy is a celestial that appears once in a while at the Cosmic Observatory in the lands of the Church of Veritas. Legend has it that he possesses the word of life. He is mentioned in the fairy tale The Wish, the Elixir and the Philosophy, but he is also a popular legend around the Cosmic Observatory that locals tell tourists and pilgrims who visit.   The truth behind the legend is that the Philosophy is an apostle of Truth, the mineosian Paragon. These angels are more like a disaster, for whatever their intentions are, the words they speak carry the influence of Truth, a very potent mind controlling quality that must simply be heard to completely enrapture a target. The ensuing chaos is often called Truth Cult Plagues, as the victims tend to lead truth crusades to spread the truth of what they heard without the means to articulate any of it. Memory magic is a good preventative and cure to the madness.   The Philosophy carries that potential danger, though through his long history on the Veritian Leaf, there has been no great outbreaks thanks to the diligence of the Veritian Church. For many centuries, the celestial was sealed by a Minesioan paraclete (often credited to the myth of Laern, though there was never a paraclete of that name). Though he was summoned again by some heathen adventurers called the Ratcatchers in the eleventh century, he was later sealed again by the Uz. But the Uz used the Philosophy as a power source for a anti-dread weapon. They used this weapon during the Eternal Empire invasion of 1102.   The battle was lost, and so was the Philosophy, its infective words spreading into the ranks of the Eternals.
