Summer Optimism

Summer Optimism is a disease acquired by contact with the Seraph of Summer in Neih. Often believed to be a curse, it is actually a neurological disorder that arises from witness the glory of the Dawning King or one of his understudies. Those affected by this sickness are unable to see threats to their life, and live in a blissful ignorance and delusional optimism.

Causes

This neurological disorder arises from witnessing the seraph of Summer or one of his understudies. Upon seeing the grand entertainer, the victim's brain believes that nothing can go wrong (even though it often forgets the moment of transmission). It is like a memory loss that attempts to help the victim cope with a traumatic experience, except in the opposite sense of the brain trying to hold onto a vanishing reality.

Symptoms

The main symptom is delusions, as patients with Summer Sickness are unable to see danger or anything that can alter their joyful mood. Patients would even lash out at those who try to inform them otherwise, seeing others as the deluded ones. The severity of the disorder can be determined by the level of optimism the patient is demonstrating. Those showing a minor state of Summer Sickness would simply go on with their day as though nothing around them has changed (still a dangerous state, as they would not know that their house is on fire). Those seriously affecting would go steps further and live full-on joyful lives in their deluded state. Lives that don't last long as the illness blinds the victim to danger.

Treatment

The most common treatment for this illness is confinement in safe institutions. Time eventually heals the delusion, and if it doesn't the patient at least is safe from accidently killing themselves.

Cultural Reception

Some branches of Summer Worship on the Veritian Leaf actively seek out this sickness, seeing it as the highest state of piety towards the seraph.
