Balmerrait, Lord of the Green

Lord of the Green Balmerrait (a.k.a. The Terror)

Balmerrait, Lord of the Green, is a male ancient green dragon who attacked the Veritian Leaf in 705, and was imprisoned in Sistern's Lair in 745 after his defeat at Break. He was recovering in his jail until 1000, when he met the young Lord Kourend Salmonpuddle. The two struck a deal. Kourend became his champion, tasked to hunt down the hags which hold Balmerrait's chains, and Balmerrait gave him in return immortality for his mouse who was dying. Balmerrait infused his soul into the mouse, connecting them. While Kourend perished before the task could be completed, he did slay half of Balmerrait's jailers. He is closer to being free than ever before, as he calls upon more champions.   In 1041, after the Dormant Advance was repelled, Balmerrait agreed to represent the Yuan-ti in the new Sovereign People's of Neih confederacy. While he is still not freed from his prison at Sistern's Lair, his chains are broken enough to project himself outside as an illusion. During the Southern Farmland Cold War, Balmerrait worked a dual task of freeing himself and sabotaging the efforts of Tumult with his loyal green dragon remnant.

Personal history

The green dragons that Balmerrait is a part of are a lesser realm species, not native to Neih. They were banished from their realm approximately 3000 years ago into the Abyss, and there found a Rift of Welcome into Neih. At first the sought to conquer all of Neih, but as they got close they saw the futility of that venture. They settled to conquered one of the smaller branches, holding about a couple dozen leaves. Balmerrait and two of his sisters, Meirvyrth and Sistern, attacked the Veritian Leaf once they saw the budding civilization there ripe for conquest. They lost.   In 1041, Balmerrait received a strange offer. The free people's of the eastern portion of the Southern Farmlands who were forming a new nation after their victory against the Dormant asked the dragon to join their budding nation. As the yuan-ti were the soldiers of his late ally Sistern, this alliance would have been beneficial for both parties in building unity and power in resisting the expansion of Tumult. He agreed under the condition that they aid him in killing his jailors.

Accomplishments & Achievements

He had several continental leaves under is domain, but 300 years of imprisonment has seen all of them liberated. Only the Kobolds remember Balmerrait's might and hope for his return. Notable one's were Neih Shadar-Kai and Neih Aarakocra.   He is also the father of most other green dragons, having sired them with Meirvyrth and Sistern.

Failures & Embarrassments

His defeat both at Fort Tuth and at Break are his greatest shames. Being imprisoned is also irksome.   Balmerrait once saw an image of Neih during the Ressurection of Gloranna, and in his shame he hid.

Motivation

Conquest and power, but also security in that power. Balmerrait is well aware of the Eternal Empire and their might. His Dragon Blight was mostly justified in building his forces to resist that anti-magic empire.
