Kryptgarden Forest

Nestled between the Sword Mountains and The Mere of Deadmen, Kryptgarden Forest is an ancient, untamed woodland, long shrouded in myth and mystery. Once a vibrant expanse of towering oaks, pines, and shadowed glades, it has, over centuries, become a place of dark legend. Travelers speak in hushed tones of an eerie watchfulness within its depths, an unnatural sense that the trees themselves are aware of those who pass beneath their twisted boughs. Though game is plentiful and the forest teems with hidden groves and crystalline streams, few dare to linger, for Kryptgarden has long been the domain of dangerous forces. In 1491 DR, the forest is best known as the lair of the ancient green dragon Claugiyliamatar, also called “Old Gnawbone,” whose influence warps the land around her. The mighty wyrm, said to be one of the most cunning and sadistic of her kind, has ruled these woods for centuries, using a vast network of spies, informants, and magical scrying to maintain dominion over her domain.   Beyond the dragon’s presence, Kryptgarden harbors remnants of forgotten civilizations and lost shrines, their crumbling ruins hidden beneath thick carpets of moss and shadowed by tangled canopies. Some sages claim the land was once sacred to druids and fey, though the balance of nature has long since shifted toward something far more predatory and cruel. In recent years, strange arcane disturbances have been reported within the forest, suggesting that its deep magic is stirring once more—perhaps due to the rifts forming between Toril and the Feywild. The Emerald Enclave and other nature-aligned factions have taken notice, for while Kryptgarden has always been wild, it now feels as if something far older, far more insidious, has begun to awaken beneath its roots.
