Eligni Coming-of-Age

In the varied, chaotic society of the Eligni, one of the most important ceremonies for an Eligni is their coming-of-age ceremony. This is a time when an Eligni picks a new name, or affirms their current name, as well as marking the moment that they truly become an adult in the eyes of other Eligni. Thanks to the many different elemental variations of the Eligni, choosing a name is a very important step in a young Eligni's life. If a Smoke Eligni is born to parents influenced by Air and Fire respectively, it's unlikely either surname will accurately display how the young Eligni child feels about themselves. So, when an Eligni feels they are ready to come of age, and when they have decided on their first and last name, they will inform their parents, and the ceremony will be arranged. 
The Coming-Of-Age ceremony is not a hugely grand affair, as it needn't be. It is, however, supposed to be incredibly personal. Close friends and family will be invited and the young Eligni will tell them all their new names, along with the meaning and reasons they have decided. This ceremony closely resembles a birthday party but happens whenever the young Eligni chooses it to happen. Some Eligni have been known to take over thirty years to finally decide they are ready to choose their own name. Once the name has been chosen and congratulations have been given from friends and family, the ceremony becomes a celebration, both of the young Eligni's youth and their future. This is also a time for drinking and ideas, with many relatives suggesting where the young Eligni should apply for an apprenticeship or begin working their first career. After a few hours of partying and celebration, the ceremony will be over, and the young Eligni will retire to their home as an adult, and as their own person, ready to take on whatever the world throws at them.
