Time in The Order of the Lost Archmagus | World Anvil

Time

Time on the world of I'athos, is a fair bit different than most planets. As with almost everything on I'athos, things function in sets of Nine. Due to the difference in time measurements, age is also measured differently. One 'year' (Rotation) in I'athos is 729 days, which is almost two Earth years. Therefore, if someone is 20 Rotations old in I'athos, they are 40 years old on Earth. Someone of 10 Rotations of age, is the equivalent of 20 years old on Earth. Thus, the age of 'adulthood' in I'athos is 9 Rotations old, 18 years old on Earth.
I'athos doesn't have a concept of minutes or seconds, as the measurement for time isn't that precise. The basic measurements are as follows:
  Rises
Falls
Shines/Dims
Days
Port/less
Cycles
Rotations
Revolutions
Rhythms
Cadences
There are 18 Shines in a day. 4 rises in the morning, the Peak, and 4 falls in the evening, followed by 9 Dims. The full sequence completes 1 day. Between these Rises and Falls, there are Quarter Rises, Half Rises, and Quarter Falls, and Half Falls, which help to specify certain times, as well as Quarter To's each of a Rise and Fall.
Then we have Ports or Portless. A Port is the duration of time it takes for the King's bridge to pass from it's port which takes 9 total days. A Portless is the same duration as a Port, save that it is not lined up with the Caelestan Gates. There are 8 Portless and one Port for each Cycle.
A Cycle is a total of 9 Port/less (8 Portless and one Port) This measures the time it takes for the Kings Bridge to pass from one of Caelestan's nine gates to the next. This takes a total of 81 days. Each Cycle is named after on of the Major Deities of Caelestan. These are as follows: Alendios, Gorodios, Aludios, Kruldios, Shimadios, Luthrios, Frakdios, Shaldios, Kordios.
Next is a Rotation, which consists of 9 Cycles. This is a measurement of the time it takes for the King's Bridge to traverse the circumference of Caelestan's walls once. It calculates to a total of 729 days.
Following is a Revolution, which is a total of 9 Rotations and is the measure of time it takes for the whole world to rotate once. This totals 6,561 days.
Next up is a Rhythm, which is the average life span of a human on I'athos, totalling 9 Revolutions, cumulating in a total of 59,049 days.
And finally, there is the Cadence, which is a measure of 9 Rhythms, or 81 Revolutions, or 729 Rotations, or 6,561 Cycles or 59,049 Port/less or 531,441 Days.
