water handling

Water handling is the control of moderate amounts of water, from the size of a person to the size of a pebble. There are overlaps between the three types of water manipulation, such that some handlers can perform small workings and others are capable of broad tuning.

Prevalence

Nearly half of the Seekers and protos currently at the Eddy are handlers. Admittedly, the statistics are a little skewed because of the Seekers from Ralcondray, who are all descended from one person and share his handling ability. Their example suggests that the scale of water manipulation is probably inherited.

Effect

Feats of water handling are smaller and performed at a shorter range than workings. The simplest is a sphere of water used as a projectile. Any shape is possible, however. At this size scale water holds itself together strongly enough that it doesn't need to be rotated for stability, allowing forms as complicated as a small doll that can be made to move. Ralcondrian handlers prefer to use twisting strands of water, braiding them into ropes capable of wrapping around dry objects and lifting them.

Side/Secondary Effects

Extended water handling takes an energy toll on the Seeker. It is very easy to deplete the aura's water without noticing, especially when keeping small amounts of water in motion for a long time. An overall feeling of dryness is the first warning sign, followed by fatigue and hunger. A Seeker who ignores these will eventually become lightheaded, and if she still doesn't stop then her body will force her to by fainting.
Material Components
Besides water itself, any object containing or saturated with water can also be moved.

Gestures & Ritual
Many handlers will wave or beckon not to guide what they're moving, but as a courtesy to inform onlookers who is controlling it and where it's going.

Applied Restriction
There are no hard boundaries on what constitutes handling range. Any person who can hold a liter of water, both as a globe between the palms and a thin column a shoulder-width long, is considered a handler.
