tkevsa strengthening bed

The strengthening bed is a medical device invented and used by the tkevsa of the Tokled island chain far in the Eastern Gap. It functions as a combination of an immobility board and a running bed. Like an immobility board, the strengthening bed is intended to aid recovery of major structural damage to the body. Like a running bed, it allows patients to move about if they are unable to do so on their own.

Function

The strengthening bed is not a single solid piece, but is composed of sections that can expand or collapse to accommodate a patient of any size. Sliding supply trays are fixed under the bed, so that the patient does not have to be moved from the bed to be treated. The entire structure is mounted on rotating belts that allow it to move, and it can be propelled by the injured tkevsa themself, if they can operate the controls without affecting their injuries, or by another tkevsa. The bed's combined function is made possible by the fact that a tkevsa's resting posture is flat on the stomach, instead of reclining as we humans do.
