The average classroom on the island of Eihlari is headed by a proctor and two maestros. To ensure fair representation, all three must be of different clans and none can be in a sept of another's clan. Maestros are the senior instructors, and they are paired to balance the responsibility of planning and teaching.

Qualifications

A maestro must have completed a full primary education, and spent two years as a proctor.  Maestros who teach a particular specialty may be required to spend an immersion season in that field every two and a half years.

Career Progression

A general education maestro usually proceeds directly from general education to aptitude discernment to field immersion to proctoring to accreditation. A specialist maestro can either follow the same path with an additional year of field immersion, or transfer to proctoring from another career.  Although uncommon, it is possible for someone to be a maestro in parallel with another career, switching to a classroom as the need for instruction in that field arises.
