hive lizard

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

In any hive, only the queen lays eggs. Most are unfertilized, which hatch into sterile workers with limited physical strength and mental capacity. Fertilized eggs develop into males or females depending on the ambient temperature. Queens primarily hatch males, to guard territory and hunt food. They hatch females when the hive grows large enough to split, or when they approach senescence.

Ecology and Habitats

Hive lizards have adapted to fit several ecological niches on Kot Petaszi. A subspecies that made its home in the outside walls of the caldera eventually spread to the inside, becoming the ancestors of szageki.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Hive lizards are found on the north and east coasts of Kot Petaszi.

Average Intelligence

Because of the prevalence of simpleminded workers, the average intelligence of hive lizards appears to be quite low. Queens and males have a significantly higher cognitive capacity.
