Session 38: He should've rolled arcana

General Summary

Who are you?
The Wandering Apocalypse continue their explorations of the Amber Temple. After messing around trying to get over a newly created gap for a bit, they come upon a room with a smaller obsidian version of the statue in the main temple hall. Andrius was oddly attracted to this, but after covering it up, all seemed to be good. They explored this and the adjoining room, but found themselves at the end of a hallway. At least, they would've, if it wasn't for a secret door they spotted leading into a sepulcher thirty foot high filled up with humanoid skulls. Oddly enough, this sepulcher also had a featureless chest attached to its ceiling. After trying to open it up to no avail, they decided to clear out the remainders of the skulls, and push out the door on the other side.
Behind it was a luxurious chamber, however marked by years and years of dust. In the middle of it all stood a large skeletal being in ornate if worn robes. Whereas normally liches are probably among the most deadly things one can find, there seemed to be something not quite al right with this one, as his memory seemed to fail him consistently. They too scavenge around here for a bit, even going as far as scooping up a trinket on his table, before deciding that it's nigh time to get out of there.
After a short rest, they head to the eastern side of the upper level of the temple, where they find a long chute in the ground leading to the lower level. They send some light down there, and promptly alert several more Flameskulls who come floating up the hole. These are dispatched of without too much trouble, but they decide to leave the hole for the time being. To the north they go, where they come upon a well-lit lecture hall, benches, lectern and black slate board still intact. It is here that they find another living being, the apprentice of the former wizard they found in the western hallway. He's heavily burned and scarred, and refuses to leave this room for as long as the wandering monstrosities and flameskulls aren't dealt with. He's had it with this place, and wishes only to retrieve his master's belongings and leave. Too bad that his master's belongings have already found a new home, as Zana utterly refuses to part with his newfound staff. The mage's apprentice gets somewhat more testy, trying to push for it, but the Wandering Apocalypse won't have it. In an attempt to have the man cooperate more, Ansgar Tyr attempts to influence his mind with magic. The mage, not taking any chances with spells cast by a man that's already shot at him multiple times, panics and strikes first. In the ensuing brawl, the apprentice falls, holes blasted straight through him.
