Personal history

Bear comes from an island called Eldeen Reaches. This island is for the most part made up of heavy forest, though the plains in the East is where the argicultural groups provide food and produce for most of the island.   Bear however hails from Southwest, from the town of Greenheart. Her pack has had a home there for generations, and she was born to warrior parents. The pack has raised their children as a family for as long as they have been around, and it was no different for Bear. She grew up learning all she could at the sides of not only her parents, but also her brothers and pack-aunts and pack-uncles.   At the age of 10 Bear, and her yearmates, got formally introduced to the Elders of the local governing sect; the Wardens of the Wood. On paper, the Wardens protect the balance between nature and civilization on the island and they provide aid and guidance. In reality however, they protect the land against two other local sects; the Ashbound and the Children of Winter.   From age 10 and onward, Bear learned under the warriors of her pack as well as following lessons from the teachers provided by the Wardens of the Wood. During her lessons, Bear was taught what it meant to be a hunter, a warrior, a defender, a magic user, a craftsman, and many more. After gaining this theoretical knowledge, Bear was expected to choose her path, as she chose the path of the warrior as a Barbarian.   After this decision, Bear trained under her father for a while, until he deemed her good enough to continue to train under one of the Wardens of the Woods.   During one of her first official missions for that Wardens of the Woods where they were putting her training to the test, Bear and her teacher stumbled upon a scouting party from the Children of Winter pack. During the following chase, Bear and her teacher entered the Gloaming; a place considered holy by the Children of Winter.   It was here that they managed to corner and kill the scouts, but not before Bear's trainer got mortally wounded. Not wishing to return empty-handed - and having no way to return her teachers body without risking being caught by the Children of Winter - Bear divested the scouts of their possessions.   They had a small amount of silver on them, as well as a scarily detailed map of Greenheart complete with markers noting down important buildings and gathering areas. One of the scouts, the one who had been strong enough to take down her teacher, had also been carrying a black book with him.   When Bear returned to hand in the items, she made the mistake of opening up the book before one of the Elders, who recognized the tome, could stop her. As she tried to pronounce the words on the page, she disappeared from the view of the Elders, only to reappear in the Archive.   And undeterminable time later, Bear returned from the Archive to the exact spot she had disappeared in. Physically, she had aged what seemed like half a decade, images of horrors discovered flashing through her mind and reflected to the outside world in her eyes. She would wake up every morning, talking in a language none of Eldeen Reaches' residents knew how to speak, and some days she would talk about knowledge best forgotten and mysteries best left unsolved.   The Elders and pack listened to every word they understood, and all the words they didn't, recording them incase there were truths spoken that had yet come to pass.   Eventually, the Elders reached a decision with the approval of both Bear's parents, the leader of the pack, and Bear herself. She would go off on a journey to grow stronger as a warrior, and to gain a hold of the dark horror's locked in her mind. She would master what she could, and what she couldn't she would keep a secret from anyone who would attempt to gain access to it.   It was understood that when the time came she was strong enough, where she had mastered as much as she could from the horrors in her head, that Bear would come back to protect her people against the slowly growing strength of the Ashbound and the Children of Winter.   When Bear left the island Eldeen Reaches, she traveled by boat in the direction of Wittering. Before leaving what had been her home for her entire life, the Elders had reached out to their contacts in the feywilds located in the town of Shae Loralyndar for further information regarding the Archives and how to survive the knowledge. The Elders had been put into contact with a scholar by the name of Enna. When word reached her that Bear would be coming their way to search for ways to master the unwillingly gained knowledge, Enna had set up the possibility for Bear to travel with her pupil; Elyrion Amakiir.   Before meeting up with Elyrion, Bear met up with another person her Elders had put her in contact with. This person, known to them as Ansgar, is a seeker of knowledge who chases myths and legends. They are hoping he might have heard of tales surrounding the Accursed Archives they themselves had no knowledge of, and for Bear any new information is more than welcome. However, no real new knowledge is gained from meeting with Ansgar, though they agree to travel together when they go and meet up with Elyrion. Bear promises that during their travels, she will Ansgar what she has learned about the Archive, without going into any specific details due to the fear of what might come to pass if she did.

Education

Taught by her pack and the Elders of the Wardens of the Woods. Later on, she was also taught the many secrets, horrors, and mysteries of the Accursed Archive, how unwilling though that teaching may have been. This knowledge, though it has been gained, has not yet been mastered in any way, shape or form.

Employment

Currently none. Bear is traveling to master the knowledge she has gained, and will be an adventurer, helping people in need while mastering what she can.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Bear has completed the first part of her training to become a Barbarian warror for the Wardens of the Wood back in her hometown, and has succesfully entered the Archives. Though the last was unwilling on her part, the Elders have still noted it down as an achievement, mainly because this means that the Children of Winter were unable to gain the knowledge for themselves as they had obviously been attempting to do.

Failures & Embarrassments

Opening a book, reading a single sentence and getting warped away to an Archive that's not supposed to be accessed that easily was quite an achievement. And quite an embarrassing one as Bear was fairly certain she completely butchered the magical transporting sentence. Also, it prevented her from growing up and learning everything she needed to under her pack and her Elders, and she considers this a personal failure.   Also there was that time with the snare-trap and hare poop, but that's neither here nor there.

Mental Trauma

The Accursed Archive. The entire Accursed Archive. Every night. Also the strange language she keeps thinking in, dreaming about, and speaking in.

Taboos

One better not ask about specifics of any of the horrors Bear might speak of. She might mention it, but she will not divulge details as the horrors are too much for a mortal mind to comprehend (or, in her case, she does not wish to think about what might happen if speaking of the horror makes it come to pass).

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Short term goal: Seeks to master the knowledge she has gained from the Accursed Archive. Bear will do everything in her power to make sure that no one gets their hands on the knowledge she now holds.   Long term goal: On the island Eldeen Reaches, her home, the Wardens of the Woods are the reigning sect. However, two of the other, more dangerous, sects have been slowly growing in power in the last couple of years. If they do not stop this growth before it becomes too late, the Elders fear that the Children of Winter and the Ashbound may soon corrupt more forest than they already have, a corruption that would decimate not just the flora and fauna, but the peaceful people that live on the island. It is Bear's goal to return to her home when she finishes mastering the knowledge the Archive gave her, and take down the threat to the land and people.
