The Battle of Northam

General Summary

The five party members in the diversion reached the surface and filed out of their digger. The sunlight was blinding after the journey underground, but the charred ruins of Northam weren’t a welcome sight. Bane, Toby, Nilsa, Adelia, and Spin shouted challenges, and soon enough ten heavily armed soldiers rushed to meet them. The group mocked the invading army and prepared themselves for battle. Bane and Nilsa flanked the four archers, scattering and crushing them while the other three attackers hammered at the line of six swordsmen. The party killed the invading soldiers with relative ease, forcing the survivors back to back to defend themselves from the pincer attack. The diversion party finally defeated and killed the last soldier while barely receiving a scratch. The party raised more noise, but no further soldiers approached them.

Meanwhile, Irond, Hadre, and Kae found themselves in the tinkering shop as the drill of the digging machine whirred and fell silent. Irond and Kae surveyed the building and peered out the windows and saw guards running towards the subsiding noise. Kae used his abilities to float up to where the interdimensional portal pulsated with energy, and he then cast an energy barrier to block any attackers from interfering. As he struggled to close the portal, Irond concentrated, reaching out with his own abilities and shifting the rocks the shop stood on. Hadre and Irond steadied themselves as the building rose above the surrounding city, but a shout from the doorway alerted Hadre and Irond to an attacker. Sergeant Cyd had managed to leap onto the moving pillar of rock before it ascended.

Kae continued to communicate with the portal to close it, and Irond soon rejoined him. With their combined efforts, the portal dissipated. However, the Yellow Swarm sensed that their route home had shut, so they phased through the walls of the shop to attack Irond and Kae. With several blasts of burning energy, the Nanos atomized the swarm, and the threat was eliminated.

With Northam saved, the party reunited. They wandered through the charred city and were shocked to see Constable Reeves approach them. He gave them a haughty look but thanked them sincerely for saving the entire town from destruction. He then shook each of the adventurer’s hands to their surprise. He then helped the party as they supervised the incarceration of Slade and Cyd in the high regent’s castle.

A few days later, word came from the high regent. He thanked the group for saving Northam, and he also mentioned that since Northam would take much time to rebuild, a good trading Post would be needed near the mountain pass. He encouraged the adventurers to build up their settlement. And so the Battle of Northam ended, and the world was saved from the scourge of the Yellow Swarm.
