History

Vanaheim's history begins long before the Old Aesir arrived in their atmosphere. The Venir were very articulate in the ways of science, medicine, and technology, only surpassed by the Aesir in the abiliity space travel and renewable energy production capabilities. The Venir have always been a very philosophical and unified people, greatly due to their telepathic abilities alllowing for shared access to the gained knowledge of all individuals. Initially, the Venir and the Aesir blended together seamlessly, each suppporting the growth of the other. In the years that followed their meeting, they quickly began to intermingle on both worlds. However, as more of the Venir began to associate with the Aesir, they began to clash on matters of philosophy and religion.   At this point in time, many of the Aesir followed a religion centered around a Deity known as, Munir. Munir encouraged his followers to herioc levels of benevolence and sanctity, primarily through the principle of acts of faithfulness, patience, peace, and love to their fellow creatures as well as direct relation with Munir himself. The Venir, however, followed a pantheon of three goddesses they called the Norns. The Norns were the eternal beings of fate, each individual representing one of the three principles of past, present and future. Norn philosophy encouraged it's followers to relentless pursuit of knowledge and mystery, acts of goodwill, honesty, communication, unity, and most importantly, the call to debate and conquer what they deemed to be intellectual wrongs in the minds of others. The idea of simple faith and selfless sacrifice didn't make sense to the minds of the Venir, and so a movement to convert the followers of Munir into philosophers of the Norns.   The movement began peacfully, with many Aesir, including a young prince named Odin, viewing it as an oppurtunity to sway fate to their own whim. However, in their pride, the Venir became persuaded that simple conversion wasn't enough and that only complete erradication of the Munir philosophy could bring true enlightenment and progress to both of their civilizations. After all, a majority of the Aesir remained unconvinced or completely opposesed to the philosophy of the Norns and the Venir belived this to be a sign pointing to a lack of true intellect.   In response, the Venir made the announcment that the Aesir had been deemed unworthy of the abilities their Mind Worldsoul granted them access to, and they would not co-operate with the Aesir anymore until they adopted a more enlightened philosophy. By this time, Odin had risen to the throne of Asgard, and he did not take the news lightly. The same desire for control that led Odin to Norn philosophy, was the same desire that caused him to launch a merciless assault against the unprepared Venir. This in turn led to a short, but exceptionally bloody war between the two races. Ultimately, the venir were conquered and were forced into submission. Their relationship with the Aesir was forerver damaged, and they would continue to remain as second class citizens and indetured servants to the Aesir until Ragnorok. However while the Aesir had won the war tactically, the Venir's initial motives for dissension had been fufilled. During the course of the war, a great many followers of Munin either defected to the Norns, or were slaughtered by the enemy for their unwavering commitment. It wasn't long before the name Munir, was nothing but a fairy tale in the minds of both the Aesir and the Venir.
