Flight Augment
This item is essentially a rocket powered glider pack that is surgically implanted into the spine and muscles of the back. It can be controlled just like the user could their own limbs. The wings retract into the body and fold up to fit the curvature of the back and around the waist. The arms of the wings extend to create a thin EM field that keeps the metal feathers suspended in the air. These feathers can be launched from the wings as projectiles. They have homing technology that returns them to the glider immediately after impact.
When you use the feathers as projectiles, treat them as a normal Mid Range Weapon. When you launch the feathers, spend a charge. At 0 charges, your glider pack shuts down and must recharge. 2 charges are restored on a short rest and 4 charges are restored on a full rest.
To fly with this item, make a ride/pilot check. On a 1-5 you gain 1 flight counter. On a 6-15 you gain 3 flight counters. On a 16-20 you gain 5 flight counters. Every action you take while in the air removes a flight counter. At 0 flight counters, you must land the glider pack. If you are unable to land safely, the GM determines your fall damage.
History
The augment was developed specifically for Helheim's branch of Valkyrie Soldiers (different from Valcare) under Hel Altruis's reign. Hel beleived the Dark Worldsoul could be used for purposes other than death, destruction, and insanity, and personally trained a select group of Helhir women in these methods. In the process of this training the recruits deepened their connection to the worldsoul beyond what anyone could have expected, so much that they unlocked immortatlity for themselves. Of course, this trait came at an extreme cost which varied between each recruit. Hel formed the Valkyrie Commune with these same recruits and planned to use them to demonstrate to all the Old Aesir that there was more to her people than meets the eye. When Ragnorok unfolded, the Valkyrie warriors fought beside their beloved queen all the way till the end. It was their battle prowess that led the charge of the Helhir forces that day. However, the entire Valkyrie commune was lost in the course of that battle, as well as Hel herself.
