On his world, this iteration of Thorne sought immortality while he was still a human. Thorun was a cultist who chose to take his studies of Loviatar a step further than his comrades. While most would be satisfied with simply participating in a cult and maybe ascertaining some level of magic, Thorun dug deeper. He discovered the ancient texts of Loviatar and learned of where her power comes from: the blood of her devotees. These forbidden texts were never to be read by lowly scholars like Thorun, yet he found them and he knew death was all that awaited him. On the night of his execution, rather than blindly walking into his demise, Thorun performed a ritual to bestow upon himself the blood magic of Loviatar and transform himself into a high priest unlike any before him. The ritual failed and Thorun was still sacrificed. Long after the ritual site lay abandoned, a skeleton awoke to find a ritualistic dagger coated in his blood. The sanguine blade imbued him with the power the ritual could not and Thorne completed his transformation into a master of hemomancy. Little is truly known what came after that fateful transformation. Some say that the Hemomancer went on to eviscerate those who wronged him, defying the will of his former master. Others believe that the Hemomancer taught others how to ascend to his level. All that is truly known is that the Hemomancer’s life force can still be called upon to grant one a modicum of power in exchange for pledging their life energy to Him.

The Hemomancer saw great potential in the Tormentor and recruited them to his team. Before being divided by the second Council, they frequently spoke about ways to move their shared goals forward. Both zealous in their own way, the Tormentor tried and failed several times to convert the Hemomancer away from their belief in their own divinity.
