grey mountains

The grey mountains pose a giant barrier between the riverlands and the Great Desert. They are named after their stone which is mostly smooth and dark and appears grey in the sunlight, but black when highly polished. Due to the harsh look of the sharp mountain peaks it is also sometimes named "the rugged mountains" Besides the unfriendly look from afar it is a place of opposites. While far up the high, cold and cruel peaks loom, in the deep valleys the warmer air and plentyful rain allow for many a small and hidden paradise.

The northern side of the mountains is by far the more populated one. From the vast woodlads to the steep mountain valleys, villages and small towns spread over the land. There are however few bigger cities in these lands. The people there live simple lives and care little for wealth in money or politics. They are confident to govern themselves in small groups and get along with their neighbours.
On the southern side of the mountains, The ruins of the high tower mark the position of a once great watchtower. At its feet, ruins of a vast city have been found. However altough the land is fertile, few people dare to live there, fearing the closeness to the desert in the south.
