Demons are the worst monsters of story. They are through and through evil with not a spark of good in them. It is no good talking to them or trying to intimidate them. They attack without warning, killing men, women and children alike. They have no code, no honor.
There are two main characteristics of demons:
The first is the more common in childrens stories. In these stories the demons are cowardly creatures that do not fight fair. they will creep up upon someone and try to kill them unnoticed. Once they are detected however a few words spoken with powerfull voice will put them to flight.
The second kind is even more dangerous. But due to the bloody massacres they make, they are not commonly told around young children. Yet as they grow up, the stories often change slowly as the children grow up to prepare them to the crueltly of the world. These demons the older children get told about are now cowards, but wild raging bloodthirsty monsters. Even when they are sure to loose a battle, the will never submit, but continue to fight like berserkers to their death. This is one of the things that makes them so dangerous. They will stop at nothing to kill, even if it means their own death. Common fighting rules do not count for them. A demon will stab himself in order to stab on behind him.
Yet such wounds as would surely lead to death for a human does not necessarily kill a demon. They are hardy and wicked creatures. Even if they get thrown down, they may just lie motionless waiting for the right moment to jump up again and stab the unwary opponent in the back.
They are creatures of the night. A demon seen under the sun is about as common as burning water. The bright and warm light seems to burn their skin horribly. No one knows where they hide during he day for those following them at the edge of dawn are never seen again. Only when the sun has set they will come crawling out of their hiding places. In deep forests, caves or on foggy days however they can also be found rarely during daytime.

But their skin or fur or scales are commonly dark or black, often also described as dirty, slimy, cracked or similar.
