The Turnstone

A recent necessity to deal with the influx of travelers to Khyber's Bounty, the Turnstone is a simple two-story inn operated by Jergal and Humsy, his gnome wife. Breakfast is served to those with room keys every morning an hour after dawn, and afternoon tea is always accompanied by the owner’s throat-singing performance. The rooms are sparse but clean, and the prices are perfectly reasonable.

Purpose / Function

The Turnstone offers meals and drinks, as well as a social space, though its competitors in those arenas often outshine it. Its primary attraction is the extended period room-and-board, offered at decent rates, and accompanied by a simple "adventurer's insurance" should some or all of the renters never return from their ventures. As such, the Turnstone runs brisk business with the adventuring community who have come in search of The Door in the Deep.

Architecture

From the outside the Turnstone is a rather unimpressive sandstone rectangle; though its simplicity isn't out of place among the homes it's surrounded by, it certainly doesn't stand out as a place of business. Only the colorful painted letters on the side, bearing its title as well as the names of its owners, indicate its function.
A sparse, rustic style gives the Turnstone's main floor an inviting charm. It boasts the only wooden chairs and tables outside of those found in the Mall, and ochre paint covers the walls and stone floor. Cleanliness is one of Humsy's many obsessions, and she can frequently be found sweeping away the tracked-in dirt of her traveling patrons.
