Droaam

"Tharashk has no business stirring up the monsters of the badlands! They're there for a reason, nobody wants them in the Five Nations. Take your ogres and kobolds and put them back in their birthright--a six foot hole in the middle of nowhere."
— Murielle d'Deneith, shortly before her death in a House duel

One of the newest nations on Khorvaire, the so-called "nation of monsters" is inhabited by generations of monstrous humanoids and dregs of Five Nations society who couldn't find a home elsewhere. The vast majority of Droaam is an arid wasteland, barely capable of sustaining agriculture and bearing no significant natural resources. It lies just south of the Shadow Marches on the western coastline of Khorvaire.

Structure

Many of the warlords of Droaam were united in the past decade by the Daughters of Sora Kell, though stories about their origins and rise are inconsistent and often fanciful. The triumvirate coven of legendary hags failed to negotiate for recognition under the Treaty of Thronehold, and thus their access to the outside world rests on the shoulders of House Tharashk, with whom they do brisk and constant business. Their ultimate goals remain a topic of much conjecture among the Five Nations and the Dragonmarked Houses.

Assets

Despite bearing claim to what is arguably the least hospitable region of Khorvaire (second of course to the Demon Wastes), Droaamites have discovered a number of untapped natural resources under the tutelage and leadership of the Daughters. The Byeshk Mountains are home to vast deposits of its namesake magical metal ore and Eberron dragonshards. The southwestern quadrant of the fledgling nation contains the Watching Wood, which produces an unusual hardwood lumber the locals have taken to calling gloamwood, and Droaam's small coastline produces a variety of maritime resources unavailable to the rest of the nation. The infrastructure to transport these resources has run into problems with the local independent warlords, many of whom oppose the Daughters' rule.
