Sibeel al-Haiya

Sibeel al-Haiya

Born in 1555 T.A. to the family of al-Muharrib, Sibeel learned early on the art of war from his father, and then from the military academies. He proved himself fleet of mind and strong of foot, a worthy combination for an officer. He excelled in dueling, archery, command, and mounted combat. With a Paladin Oath, he gained magical abilities in which he also excelled. This success left him alone at the top of the class and an inspiration to all junior officers below and the soldiers serving under them. From the start of the Tenfold War, Sibeel proved himself as a commander in combat and was trusted with many of the crucial operations that marked success or failure during the war. It was during that time that he was given the name "al-Haiya," meaning one who continues to survive despite the odds standing against him. It was near the end of the war when Sibeel, as a high-ranking commander, was given the task of destroying Scario, the city state which had sided with Nor'Vagu during the war and given them a beachhead inside Aurelia's borders. After Al-Djinn-San left the war and the Nor'Vagan military was left without magical defenses, the army of Aurelia leveled the city, leaving only ruins. This event changed Sibeel's outlook on the war. Nor'Vagu was pushed back to their original borders and the war was ended with Aurelia's victory, but Sibeel profoundly disagreed with the end result. Aurelia had razed an entire city in the course of the war, and now reigned as a united empire with the seven nations under their sole dominion.

Though it was not his place, Sibeel spoke out in the political arena against Aurelia's actions after the war concluded. It was not Aurelia's place to lord over the other nations and dictate what they should do. Instead he said, the nations should be allowed to rule and make decisions for themselves. He gained much notoriety in the Parliament and much support from people across the Twin Continents. Through radio, telegram, newspapers, and magic, his speeches proliferated throughout the nations and beyond, attracting like-minded individuals who wanted to resist Aurelia's rule. It all came to a head in 1672 T.A. when the Aurelian prince was assassinated by a Nor'Vagan agent, Razia Malundama, in revenge for Scario. After that, Sibeel had to leave the capital and form a Resistance group against Aurelia, as they were now being labelled terrorists and being hunted by the state.

However, Sibeel proved too clever a tactician for Aurelia. He rallied his Resistance from across the Twin Continents, avoided the Aurelian army, and struck valuable targets to the military without harming citizens. But there was always the question of how to deal with Aurelia itself. In 1674, a month before Summer Solstice, Sibeel successfully deceived the Aurelian Army in sending the bulk of its forces west to hunt him, while he and many of his forces infiltrated Aurelia. The plan was to take the city and hold it hostage until they agreed to free the nations. But during the battle, strange magical fire was summoned throughout the city that killed hundreds of Resistance fighters without harming the city or the people inside. The Resistance was forced to retreat, and Sibeel had to first find a way to disable the weapon before a new assault could take place.

After he dispatched Razia and Squad Chi to investigate the weapon, Sibeel continued his regular activities while recruiting more people to the cause. In early fall of 1674, Razia's team found Albion, who was actually Vir al-Amir, the new prince of Aurelia. Albion met with Sibeel as a sympathizer to the Resistance, and Sibeel and Razia were able to convince him to join their cause. Soon after, news came of an impending orc attack on the Dwarven fortress of Eadra. Sibeel led half of the Resistance to defend Eadra, and they all fought bravely, successfully defending the fortress against overwhelming odds. With public support behind the Resistance growing every day, and Albion on the inside discovering the secret of Aurelia's weapon, Sibeel and Squad Chi were able to infiltrate the city and assassinate the king, Primus al-Malik, and have Albion take his place.

The new king, Albion al-Malik, appointed Sibeel to be his Minister of Defense, which placed him in charge of the entire military. Now that the nations have been freed to rule themselves, the year since Albion's coronation has been one of massive changes, with Sibeel moving more and more military forces out of the surrounding nations back to Aurelia proper, while also dealing with the upheavals of elemental battles and anomalies.

"Defenders of Eadra! Why do ye lie down if not in death? Do you take this moment to sit and repose? Or perhaps you cast adoration upon our terrible foe? Behold! Our enemy stands upon the precipice! They cross unbidden the threshold of our home! Awake! Arise! And repay their vain ambition with double smart, a hundredfold for each their foul deformities!
