Blight *WIP*
(*Jan. 29, 2023 12:57am Am very tired writing this, probably would qualify as impaired.*)
- In the Before Time, when people didn’t fully understand the nature of the fungus and mushrooms on Lilienwelt, a sickness began to spread among the colonists.
- The Before Times were very primitive by Nowadays standards, in that they confused the fungi’s exploration for an infection or invasion.
- The Blight was a misunderstanding.
- What it was was a new type of fungus, one that was just as curious about us as we were about it.
- It caused hallucinations that were some times real. It caused you to see through eyes that were not your own and it was only later that we learned who they belonged to. It was Magic. And when it touched out minds, in our fevers the Fey were born.
- Called the Blight because of it’s fungal origins.
- Eventually a vaccine was created to stop the spread of the Blight. This vaccine, was similar to the small pox vaccine of 21st century Earth in that it left a scar on the same arm from everyone (the left arm in the case of small pox) colloquially called ‘a blight kiss’ (needs a better name than that or maybe something more romantic, like ‘a blight rose’?). This was quiet literally and figuratively the Mark of a Generation.
- As modern knowledge grew the vaccine was no longer administered as modern humens have a better grasp and understanding of things.
- Elves are people who are not anti-vaxxers, but rather people who listened to the Blight, who sought it out. They followed it and let it grew in them. Now, (decades, or centuries later) these Elves are more fungus than human.
- Vulgar to say the Elves are ‘toughed by the Blight’. There is still some prejudice from the old older generation, those with the Blight Kiss, against the Elves for ‘leaning into the Blight’.
- The vaccine of the Blight Kiss or Blight Rose is ineffective against the evolved fungi of today and it can not ‘cure’ Wolpertingers *WIP*.
- Nowadays there are more clear boundaries between the different species that call Lilienwelt home.
